
Former semi-finalist Matteo Berrettini will not compete at the upcoming US Open. The Italian has not played since falling to Kamil Majchrzak in the Wimbledon first round. He skipped Toronto and Cincinnati, hoping to recover in time for the season's last Major.
However, Matteo lost the battle against time and withdrew from the US Open. Thus, he will missthe main draw action in New York for the first time since 2017 when he fell to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second qualifying round.
The Italian enjoyed a great streak at Majors in 2021 and 2022, reaching four consecutive quarter-finals and challenging Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final. Since Roland Garros 2022, Matteo has withdrawn from seven Major events, struggling to remain injury-free.

Berrettini was the US Open semi-finalist six years ago, besting five rivals before falling to an eventual champion, Rafael Nadal, in straight sets after a solid resistance.
He was the quarter-finalist in 2021 and 2022, suffering losses to Novak Djokovic and Casper Ruud. Matteo experienced early losses in New York in the previous two years to Arthur Rinderknech and Taylor Fritz.
Former world no. 6 is 13-11 in 2025. He was the quarter-finalist in Doha, Dubai and Miami, including a memorable win over Novak Djokovic. The Italian experienced a massive setback at home at Foro Italico.

He trailed 7-5, 2-0 against Casper Ruud before retiring due to abdominal issues, leaving the court devastated following another setback. Berrettini felt pain in his abdominal muscles ahead of the match.
Still, he decided to step onto the court and battle in front of the home fans. He foughtwell in the opener before feeling discomfort in the closing stages. Ruud broke him a couple of times, and the home player decided to end his misery and retire.
Matteo withdrew from Roland Garros and his tournaments on beloved grass in Stuttgart and Queen;s. Former Major finalist returned to action at Wimbledon and lost to Kamil Majchrzak in five sets.
It remains Berrettini's most recent match, as he withdrew from Toronto, Cincinnati and the US Open. Injury-prone player will try to recover for the closing stages of the season and gain at least some boost.
