Christian Cages surprise run-in to save Adam Copeland on AEW Dynamite had fans talking, but according to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, there was a bigger plan behind their reunion and it all centered on getting them a win before a potential title shot.
After Copelands disqualification loss to Stokely Hathaway caused by powder to the eyes FTR jumped in for a two-on-one attack. Thats when Cage stormed the ring with Spike in hand, clearing out Nick Wayne and Kip Sabian before sharing a hug with Copeland. Dave Meltzer broke down what was really going on behind the scenes.
When Bryan Alvarez questioned the logic of not saving their first match together in over a decade for the Toronto show, Meltzer emphasized that the match was also designed to serve as a grudge payoff.
While Meltzer admitted the match might go longer than planned, he said its still a big opportunity for Sabian and Wayne to work with two top-level veterans, even if they arent expected to win.
If AEW sticks to the original plan, Copeland and Cages reunion could be setting the stage for gold but the question is whether that title shot will actually happen.
Do you think AEW should hold off on Copeland and Cage teaming until a bigger stage, or is getting them a win now the right call? Share your thoughts in the comments.
