MVP is catching heat in AEW, and its not just from the spotlight. Reports have surfaced suggesting that the Hurt Syndicate leader is ruffling feathers behind the scenes, and it all boils down to how hes handling creative especially when it comes to who beats his faction.
The latest tension came to light after claims that MVP refused to let The Hurt Syndicate lose to FTR, not once but twice. AEW reportedly pitched a major redemption arc for FTR, with planned victories over the Syndicate at both All In and Forbidden Door. But MVP reportedly shut it down and proposed an alternative: losing the titles to younger teams instead.
That compromise didnt land well with others backstage. Sources say MVP named Gates of Agony, The Outrunners, and Private Party as teams hed be willing to lose to. The problem? The Hurt Syndicate had already beaten those teams making the suggestion feel like a stall tactic to some in the locker room.
To make matters worse, MVPs backstage relationships are also under scrutiny. Wrestlers reportedly feel that his personal dislike for Speedball Mike Bailey is spilling over into the booking. Even though theres no confirmed reason behind it, several AEW talents said MVP made it known that he didnt want The Hurt Syndicate to lose to Baileys team, JetSpeed. Whether that match was ever locked in remains unclear, but MVPs pushback was noted.
And while The Hurt Syndicate presents as heels on TV, some backstage sources are annoyed that the group still breaks character by high-fiving fans after matches, sending mixed signals about their role.
In response to the flood of chatter, MVP took to Twitter with a laid-back post, clearly unbothered by the reports.
While its not a direct denial, its obvious MVP isnt letting the narrative rattle him publicly even if things behind the curtain are a bit more tense than hes letting on.
With AEW fans keeping a close eye on MVPs booking decisions and how The Hurt Syndicate is handled in upcoming storylines, the pressure is clearly on. Whether this is just locker room politics or something more serious remains to be seen.
