The well-known face of the golf scene, the Welsh golfer, Ian Woosnam, believes that the Northern Irish golf course, as well as some other legendary places, should not host the oldest golf tournament.
Namely, he stresses that modern golfers use advanced equipment, making their work much easier on old golf courses.
He believes that Scotland should build a new modern links course, which would be specially made for The Open.
"I've had a few arguments about this at The Open at St Andrews Old [Course]. You could get someone like DeChambeau drive nine greens. It can make it look stupid. It takes six-and-a-half hours to play a round there."- he said, as quoted by Golf Monthly.

"Why don't you keep St Andrews Old as a souvenir, as history, and build another golf course on the side of it - on the old and the new - and make a golf course specifically for The Open and play it there every year like The Masters?"
What decision to make given the differing public opinions?
The opinions of the public regarding these golf courses are different. While there are those who also criticize these golf courses, believing that they are not a serious challenge for modern golfers, there are also those who emphasize tradition and prestige, stressing that playing on these golf courses is a special experience that evokes nostalgia for golf fans.

St Andrew is certainly one of the two confirmed hosts of future Open tournaments, after Royal Birkdale next year.
It is difficult to give a real answer as to whether there will be rapid changes after that.
