Cameron Young impressed the public with his last performance, at the Wyndham Championship. The famous golfer had a five shot lead before the last day, and right at the start of the last day he was quite dominant.
With five consecutive birdies and three bogeys, the 28-year-old finished the round with a score of 2-under par (68) and a total of 22-under par.
In an interview with the media, the American golfer admitted that winning feels great, but also revealed that he had lost confidence in himself in recent months.
Speaking about the dominance in this tournament, Young shared his feelings that he could be a dominant figure.
In some moments, it seemed that he could even do more, but the most important thing for him is victory.
It feels great. It feels like a long time coming, he said, as quoted by Golf Today.
I felt like for the first year and a half that I was out here I had a chance to win every third week it felt like. Theyve been a bit more few and far between, so to have a chance like this today, I was not going to let it get away from me and Im thankful that I didnt.
I played the front nine really, really well this week. I think I was probably close to 20-under on the front. I just knew that there were opportunities. Obviously No. 1 was a little messy, but then I kind of got to work. Nice to see all those putts go in. Obviously on another day maybe not all of them go in, but I was rolling it great. Nice to see a bunch of them in a row find the bottom.
First career win
It is important to note that this is also the first PGA Tour title for the 28-year-old, who now has a clear path to chase several more trophies. His career has been marked by numerous runner-up finishes, which certainly added extra pressure on Smith.
The American golfer dominated in various statistical categories during this tournament, and his final score stands as the best of his career.
