Eugenie Bouchard was thrilled to put an end to her pro tennis journey in her hometown as she described finishing her career in Montreal as "a full-circle moment."

After not playing much over the past few years and only taking part in her first tournament of the year earlier this month, Bouchard - who was born in Montreal - reached out to the Canadian Open to ask for a wildcard so she could retire in front of her home fans - the request was expectedly granted. In her final tournament, the former world No. 5 defeated Emiliana Arango in the first round before falling short to Belinda Bencic in a three-setter.

I think its so special to play my last match here in Montreal on this court in front of you guys. I remember being a little kid sitting in these stands, hoping and dreaming that I can play on this court one day. It feels like such a full-circle moment to finish my career here," Bouchard told the crowd after her final match.

Bouchard was only 14 when she played in her hometown tournamentfor the first time

Believe it or not, Bouchard was only 14 when she played in Montreal for the first time in her life. That year, the Canadian was given a qualifying wildcard by the tournament. Playing against former world No. 66 Abigail Spears, she competed pretty well before losing 3-6 4-6.

Bouchard also played in the Montreal qualifying in 2010 before making her main draw debut at the tournament in 2012. Across five main draw appearances in her home tournament, the Canadian once made the round-of-16.
