Happy Gilmore 2 officially hit screens this week and features several familiar faces from the wrestling world, including MJF, Becky Lynch, and Nikki Bella. But one major WWE name who nearly joined the cast was Cody Rhodes.
According to Fightful Select, Cody Rhodes was contacted and asked to read for a role in the sequel. Talks between both sides did take place, but the opportunity fell through due to scheduling conflicts. While its not known how close Rhodes actually got to being cast, the interest was very real.
MJF and Becky Lynch both cleared their schedules to make room for filming. MJF took an extended absence from AEW television in order to finish his scenes, while Lynch filmed her role while taking time away from WWE. MJFs commitment even included leaving the film set to work a single AEW match, only to return the next morning and continue production.
Cody Rhodes missing out on the film comes as a reminder that his rising profile continues to open doors outside the wrestling ring, even if the timing didnt work out this time.
Are you surprised Cody Rhodes didnt land a role in Happy Gilmore 2? Would you like to see him take on more Hollywood opportunities in the future? Sound off in the comments and let us know what you think.
