After just two Summer League games, Cooper Flagg has already left his mark. Now the Mavericks are taking no chances with their prized rookie.

Dallas is shutting down Flagg for the remainder of Summer League after his standout performance, according to Marc Stein.

This move has become standard for top picks who show early flashes. Teams often decide the risk of injury outweighs any extra reps in what can be an unstructured and chaotic environment.

The 19-year-old struggled in his Summer League debut against the Lakers, shooting 5-of-21 from the field.

However, the number one overall pick bounced back in a big way during his second outing against the Nets.

He torched Brooklyn for 31 points on ten-of-21 shooting and made 13 trips to the free throw line, even while being defended by Carter Bryant.

Flagg also showcased his defensive instincts and ability to rebound in traffic, silencing early concerns about his adjustment to NBA physicality.

The Mavericks see no reason to risk their top investment any further before training camp.

Flaggs next appearance on the court will likely come during the Mavericks preseason schedule in October, where all eyes will be on how the 6-foot-9 forward handles full NBA competition.
