Athena walked into AEW All In: Texas with one goaland she left with a title shot in her back pocket.
The Womens Casino Gauntlet Match on July 12th was filled with chaos, returns, and hard-hitting action, but when the dust settled, it was Athena who stood tall. Entering late in the match, the former ROH Womens Champion made her presence felt immediately, storming the ring and laying waste to the competition.
From the moment she stepped in, Athena zeroed in on Mina Shirakawa. After a couple of powerful powerbombs on Mina, Athena went on a rampage, hitting Thekla and Tay Melo before launching herself outside the ring to crush Kris Statlander and delivering a nasty kick to Megan Bayne.
Syuris surprise debut added fuel to the fire, and while she briefly targeted Athena, it wasnt enough to derail the veteran. After a hard-fought series of eliminations and brawls involving Thunder Rosa, Willow Nightingale, and Queen Aminata, Athena managed to survive it all.
In the final moments of the match, Athena landed her finisher on Mina Shirakawa, securing the three count and locking in her shot at the AEW Womens World Title. The crowd erupted, knowing full well what this win could mean for Athenas future in AEW.
Athenas road to gold just got very real. Shes been one of the most dominant names in ROH, and now AEWs womens division has been officially put on notice.
