Goldberg will be challengingGUNTHER for the WWE World Heavyweight Title at Saturday Nights Main Event. This bout will be his retirement match but now Goldberg has revealed why his retirement match was delayed in the first place.

While speaking to 11 Alive, Goldberg revealed why his retirement match was delayed, explaining that this had actually been building ever since his last match. He said that most people probably know he was originally promised a retirement match, another bout after the final one that was on his contract.

That agreement was between him and Vince McMahon, but after Vince was fired, everything changed and the plan was basically left hanging. For a long time, nothing happened. Goldberg didnt feel like picking up the phone to demand his promised match. He accepted that if it happened, it happened and if not, he was fine not wrestling again.

Then a couple of years later, Goldberg got the call from WWE. By that time, he admitted he was older and more banged up than the 285-pound version fans remembered from his prime. Even then, as an athlete and a competitor, he couldnt bring himself to say no. In his mind, even if he were 70 years old, 50% of what hes capable of would still be better than what 99% of people on the planet could do.

We will have to wait and see whether Goldberg will end up beating GUNTHER or if the Ring General will make short work of the WWE Hall of Famer. No matter what, it will be Goldbergs retirement match and its expected he will be happy with how it turns out in the end.
