Ted DiBiase Jr. is trying to pump the brakes on his upcoming federal trial, arguing that new video evidence could change everything.
The former WWE star is scheduled to face trial on August 19 in Mississippis Southern District Court over his alleged role in a massive welfare fraud scheme. But in a motion filed on July 2, DiBiases legal team asked the court to delay the trial, claiming federal prosecutors just dumped nearly 48 hours of video footage that could prove his innocence.
These 72 videos are directly exculpatory evidence, DiBiases attorneys wrote in the filing. The indictment states that DiBiase did not provide and did not intend to provide social services. This is belied by copious video footage that the United States just produced.
The footage reportedly shows DiBiase conducting Law of 16 training sessions for the Mississippi Department of Human Services, contradicting prosecutors claims that he never provided legitimate services under the contracts in question.
DiBiases legal team says theyve been swamped with irrelevant discovery for over two years, estimating that 95% of what they received had nothing to do with the actual case. With this new footage surfacing just 60 days before trial, they say they need more time to review everything and build their defense.
DiBiase faces multiple federal charges tied to the Mississippi welfare scandal, including wire fraud, theft concerning federal programs, and money laundering. If convicted on all counts, he could be staring down 45 years in prison and $1 million in fines.
The court has yet to rule on the request for a delay. Ringside News will continue to provide updates as they become available.
