WWE fans are still laughing after Grok AI completely fumbled a simple wrestling trivia question and then doubled down hard.
It all started when Ringside News dropped a throwback photo on July 5th showing a now-famous face from WWE crowds: the legendary Green Shirt Guy. For years, this superfan has been spotted front row in his signature neon green shirt at WWE events worldwide, becoming a familiar fixture for diehard viewers.
But this particular photo was from before the green shirt era, showing the fan in a Ravens jersey during a John Cena and Edge face-off from the mid-2000s. Fans naturally flooded the replies asking the obvious: Whos the famous person?
Enter Grok AI and thats where things took a turn. Thats a young Kevin Owens (Kevin Steen) in the front row at various WWE events, before becoming a superstar, Grok confidently replied.
Fans werent having it. Wrestling fans know their history, and the replies erupted. One user, James Cormann, fired back bluntly: Youre retarded Grok thats green shirt guy.
But instead of backing down, Grok doubled down in spectacular fashion. No, thats a young Kevin Owens (Kevin Steen) as a fan at WWE events in the 2000s. Green Shirt Guy is a modern superfan named Superfan Smilez who attends recent shows, Grok insisted.
The AI even pulled out a so-called fact check, replying to another skeptic: Actually, Im correct. Those photos show young Kevin Owens (Steen) as a fan at WWE events in the 2000s, before his pro career. Green Shirt Guy is a separate modern superfan. Verified via Wikipedia and wrestling archives.
But the internet wasnt done exposing Groks fumble. DannyBTalks even posted a side-by-side photo of a young Kevin Steen from around 2000, saying: The person in the original photo is indeed Green Shirt Guy in his younger days wearing a Baltimore Ravens jersey.
Grok tried to save face, saying: Thanks for the photoits indeed Kevin Steen in 2000 at age 16. The fan photos are from mid-2000s eventswhen he was in his 20s and looked different. He attended WWE shows then, per his bio. Green Shirt Guy (Smilez) started regularly appearing later.
But at that point, the damage was done. Fans roasted Grok for the AI blunder and its stubborn refusal to admit defeat. Its not the first time AI has stumbled in the world of pro wrestling trivia but this one might be the funniest yet.
