WWE is showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to bringing in top talent from Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. The latest name reportedly set to make the jump is Octagon Jr.
According to a report from Cassidy Hays of Bodyslam.net, Octagon Jr. has signed a deal with WWE and is already informing people that he is working his final dates with AAA and fulfilling his remaining commitments before officially joining the company. It was also noted that Octagon Jr. will no longer be accepting any independent wrestling bookings moving forward as he transitions into WWE full-time.
Octagon Jr. has already been introduced to WWE fans in a big way. He competed at the WWE x AAA Worlds Collide event, appearing in the opening six-man tag team match. After his team picked up the victory, he got into a physical confrontation with Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio, setting the stage for a title match between the two later that same evening at WWE Money in the Bank. While Mysterio retained his championship, Octagon Jr.s performance clearly made an impact.
This signing continues WWEs aggressive recruitment of AAA talent since the two promotions began working together. In recent months, several big names from AAA have reportedly signed with WWE, including Psycho Clown, El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., El Hijo del Vikingo, La Parka, La Hiedra, Lady Flammer, Lady Maravilla, and Nio Hamburguesa.
AAAs Konnan previously spoke about WWEs growing interest in the Mexican promotion, explaining that the long-term goal for WWE is to help secure a television deal for AAA in the United States. That move would bring even more exposure to AAA talent while strengthening WWEs presence in the Lucha Libre market.
Octagon Jr.s signing only adds to the momentum as more AAA stars prepare to join the WWE systemand it looks like this is far from the end of WWEs AAA invasion.
