The King of the Ring tournament will crown its winner at WWE Night of Champions on June 28, but the stakes go far beyond bragging rights.
JoeyVotes revealed on WrestleVotes Radio that WWE has penciled in the winner for the final between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton and its not just about the crown. The current storyline direction is for Rhodes to challenge John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship at SummerSlam on August 2-3, setting the stage for a WrestleMania 41 rematch.
Rhodes and Ortons history runs deep. Once allies in Legacy, the two have since carved out their own legacies, with Rhodes rising as one of WWEs biggest babyfaces and Orton remaining as dangerous as ever. Their King of the Ring final is expected to be more than just a tournament win its a launching pad for the Undisputed Title picture.
For Rhodes, its a chance to finish his story after coming up short at WrestleMania 41. For Orton, its an opportunity to crush that dream and reassert his dominance at the top of the roster.
