Rey Mysterio is now recovering at home in California following surgery for a torn groinbut it turns out that wasnt the only injury he was battling ahead of WrestleMania 41.
In a new interview with Jim Varsallone, Mysterio revealed that in addition to the torn abductor muscle that required surgery, he also suffered a busted eardrum. The WWE Hall of Famer quietly worked through both injuries as WrestleMania approached, before being pulled from his scheduled match.
The injury originally occurred during the March 29 episode of SmackDown, where Mysterio teamed up with Dragon Lee and Rey Fenix against American Made. While the torn groin was serious enough to require immediate surgery, the busted eardrum had not been reported until now.
Despite the setback, Mysterio is staying positive about his future in WWE. He credited his continued passion for wrestling to his son Dominik Mysterio entering the business, reigniting his motivation to perform.
WWE has not announced an official return date for Mysterio, but he is featured on promotional material for the upcoming Worlds Collide event, WWEs crossover show with AAA. While Mysterio confirmed he will be involved, he didnt specify in what capacity.
At nearly 50 years old, Mysterio continues to push through the physical toll of decades in the ring, reminding fans that his story is far from overeven if the injuries keep piling up.
