WWE may be stacking up on European talent, but PROGRESS World Champion Luke Jacobs isnt headed to the companyat least not yet.
Fightful Selects Corey Brennan has confirmed that Jacobs was informed during the PROGRESS Super Strong Style 16 weekend that he has not been signed by WWE at this time. This comes after weeks of conflicting reports regarding his status following his standout performance at the UK tryout prior to WrestleMania.
Multiple sources close to the situation told Brennan that Jacobs massively impressed WWE officials during the tryout, drawing comparisons to Goldenboy Santos, another prospect expected to remain on WWEs radar. Despite not landing a contract just yet, Jacobs is still viewed as a strong candidate for future recruitment.
Initial reports suggested WWE had serious interest in Jacobs, with one source saying they believed Jacobs would sign with WWE this year. Others pushed back, claiming Jacobs wouldnt be joining the company anytime soon. That debate now appears to be settledat least for the short term.
Meanwhile, WWE has already moved forward with signing several European standouts. Spains Zozaya, Belgiums Mike D Vecchio, and French high-flyer Aigle Blanc are all expected to report to WWEs developmental system this September. All three have competed across major promotions including wXw, RevPro, and AJPW. Their signings are reportedly being handled by WWE recruiter James Amner.
Jacobs, however, remains in limbo. While he didnt get the nod this time, sources believe his door with WWE is far from closed.
With renewed talk of NXT Europe returning and WWE aggressively recruiting international talent, Jacobs is clearly still in the mixand worth watching.
