R-Truth isnt pulling any punches heading into his long-awaited clash with John Cena at WWEs Saturday Nights Main Event. Just before stepping into the ring with his childhood idol, the 53-year-old WWE veteran took to social media to send a pointed messageand it didnt go unnoticed.
Following this weeks episode of Friday Night SmackDown, R-Truth shared a photo of a fan sign reading If Cena Wins We Riotthe same phrase he used to close out his intense promo on SmackDown. Along with the image, Truth dropped a not-so-subtle three-word jab that played off Cenas famous catchphrase: HUSTLE LOYALTY RESPECT.
This match has personal stakes for R-Truth, who made it clear on SmackDown that the man hell be facing isnt the John Cena he once looked up to. During his in-ring promo, Truth told the live crowd that Cenas rise in power and fame made him feel like he didnt recognize his hero anymore.
The problem is power, he said. Because the more power and fame Cena got, the more disconnected I felt.
Truth didnt stop there. He compared Cena to a corrupted Gollum from Lord of the Rings, explaining how obsessed Cena has become with the Undisputed WWE Championship.
He stares at his championship and calls it his precious, Truth said, drawing both laughs and gasps. I dont know if I can bring John Cena back, but Im going to try.
The feud turned physical at Backlash 2025, when Cena put Truth through a table during the post-show press conference. That moment lit the fuse for their non-title clash in Tampa. Despite everything, Truth told fans he still misses the version of Cena he once admired, but wont hesitate to fight him.
This match may not have championship gold on the line, but the emotional stakes are sky-highespecially for Truth, whos chasing more than just a win. Hes chasing redemption for a friendship that might already be gone.
