WWE acquiring Mexican lucha libre promotion AAA will see a lot of changes in the coming weeks and they will be holding their first joint event called WWE x AAA Worlds Collide next month. Theres speculation about Alberto Del Rio appearing at the event and now his status has been revealed.
While speaking on WrestleVotes Radio, WrestleVotes reported that several AAA wrestlers are currently planned to appear at the upcoming Worlds Collide event. The names include Aero Star, Chik Tormenta, El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., El Hijo del Vikingo, Laredo Kid, Mr. Iguana, Octagon Jr., Pagano, and Psycho Clown.
However, one notable name thats missing is Alberto Del Rio, so it is highly unexpected that he will be part of the upcoming event on June 7th. This comes after it was previously reported that Alberto Del Rio remains signed to AAA and WWE will just be inheriting that contract eventually.
AAA recently announced a match between Alberto Del Rio and El Hijo del Vikingo for an upcoming event scheduled on May 31st, before WWE x AAA Worlds Collide, showing that AAA still sees Del Rio as a major star. However, this doesnt mean WWE has any plans to use him once they officially take over.
Because of Alberto Del Rios past problems with WWE and the bad media attention hes gotten in recent years, WWE is likely choosing to stay away from him, even if hes working with AAA. No matter what, he wont be at the Worlds Collide event, and thats not expected to change.
