Triple H is a two-time WWE Hall of Famer, but that career in the ring had to come to an end. That retirement came on the eve of WrestleMania 38, and Triple H kicked off that event as he has with other Mania shows. However, Vince McMahon may not have approved of the situation.
Triple H officially announced his retirement from in-ring competition at the start of night two of WrestleMania 38 at AT&T Stadium. This was not something that he took lightly, as The Game had accomplished a ton in the squared circle.
The announcement came after he underwent a cardiac procedure due to a heart issue, which he has thankfully recovered from. This appearance marked the beginning of the show and signaled a shift in his role within WWE, as he continued his work as Chief Content Officer from a part-time WWE Superstar.
Triple H discussed that moment on a new episode of Stephanies Places. He explained how Vince McMahon reacted to the idea of starting the event with his retirement speech. McMahon was hesitant, expressing concern over the tone it would set.
Triple H also viewed the moment differently than Vince McMahon did. To The Game, it was not about stepping away from the ring, but about returning in another capacity after recovering from a life-threatening issue. It was both a milestone and a farewell for the King of Kings.
As everyone is well aware, on May 7, there was an update on the ongoing sex trafficking lawsuit filed against McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis by former employee Janel Grant. We will have to see how that story plays out, but Triple H is doing just fine at the helm of WWEs creative direction, as Endeavor and Fanatics have helped WWE breach into a new frontier.
