Becky Lynchs surprising loss to Lyra Valkyria at WWE Backlash 2025 has fans questioning why the former champion didnt walk away with the WWE Womens Intercontinental Title. Despite dominating much of the match and coming close to victory multiple times, Lynch ultimately fell to Valkyria after a relentless series of counters and near falls.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the decision to keep the title on Valkyria may have been a calculated move to elevate her status. Meltzer speculated, I would bet, know that she was going to win the title that she would want to lose the first one, which is really good because it establishes because if you just beat her the first time, it would kinda be like, well Lyras mid-carder, so what. When she finally beats her, Lyra is a real star, beating Becky Lynch clean in the middle on a pay-per-view.
During the match, Lynch tried every trick in the book from using a steel chair as a distraction to attempting to expose the top turnbuckle. However, Valkyria countered a Man-Handle Slam and delivered her Night Wing finisher to secure a hard-fought victory.
After the bell, Lynch attacked Valkyria again, locking her in the Dis-Arm-Her and refusing to let go, leaving the Womens IC Champion battered and potentially dealing with a broken nose.
Do you agree with the strategy of having Becky Lynch lose to Lyra Valkyria in their first encounter? Was it the right move to establish Valkyria as a top player in the division? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
