WWE has officially abandoned its trademark filing for the name Edge, opening the door for Adam Copelandformerly known as Edge in WWEto possibly take it back.
Copeland, now signed to AEW and performing under his real name and the nickname Cope, hasnt commented on the development, but the move has wrestling fans asking one big question: will the WWE Hall of Famer reclaim the iconic name that defined his career?
Trademark abandonment typically means the company no longer intends to use the name in commerce, which in this case clears the path for someone elselike Copeland or AEWto file for ownership. But its not necessarily that simple. The Edge character was created and made famous during Copelands decades-long run in WWE, and when it comes to wrestling trademarks, the rights usually stay with the company that developed and promoted the brand.
Still, this update throws a curveball into the mix. With WWE dropping the trademark and Copeland continuing to build momentum in AEW, fans are now wondering if a legal comeback for Edge is even possibleor if Copeland will let the name rest for good.
Neither Copeland nor AEW have made any public moves toward reclaiming the trademark, but the door is technically open.
Whether Adam Copeland goes after the Edge name or not, one things for surehe doesnt need it to stay relevant. The man built a legacy with that name, but in AEW, hes proving he can still tear the house down without it. If he wants to bring Edge back, the path just got a little clearer but if not, Cope might just be the next chapter fans never knew they needed.
Should Adam Copeland try to take back the Edge nameor is it better left in the past? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
