Theres something about a mask that changes everythingand Chad Gable knows it. While Gables WrestleMania season ended with back-to-back losses, his masked alter ego, El Grande Americano, hasnt dropped a single match since debuting. And now, hes one win away from capturing his first singles title in WWE.
Americano is undefeated in WWE Speed competition, recently taking down Erik in the opening round. Today, he stepped it up again, defeating Alex Shelley in the semi-finals with just 39 seconds left on the three-minute clock. The match marked the first-ever singles clash between the two, and Americano sealed it with a diving headbuttmask loaded and allbefore pinning the former Tag Team Champion.
Now the stage is set: Dragon Lee will defend his WWE Speed Championship against El Grande Americano next Wednesday at 12 pm ET on X/Twitter.
This wont be new territory for either man. Dragon Lee and Chad Gable have already faced off three times in singles matches, with Lee winning the first two encountersone of which came during a Speed title defense. However, it was Americano who finally scored a singles win over Lee on RAW last month, proving hes got the champions number when the mask is on.
The identity may be masked, but the mission is clearGable wants gold. And under the persona of El Grande Americano, hes never looked closer to finally doing it.
El Grande Americano is on a roll, and with Dragon Lee waiting next week, fans could witness a career-altering win for Chad Gables alter ego. This Speed title match might just be the beginning of something bigger.
