Ethan Page shocked many when he won the Intercontinental Championship from Chad Gable on "WWE Raw," with Bully Ray also among those surprised by the title change.Page won his first main roster championship through underhanded tactics after he put Gable through the exposed turnbuckle and then hit his finisher to get the win. Ray discussed the match on "Busted Open" and explained what could be next for Page, stating that he doesn't want to see a Page-Gable storyline."It's a big win for Ethan Page last night. Huge step forward for him. I'm shocked Gable lost," said Ray. "I'm not so sure if I want to see a story between Ethan Page and Chad Gable. I'd love for Ethan Page to have a clean slate. I'd love to hear from him next week with a mission statement. I wouldn't mind if Cass was his bodyguard moving forward.A Shawn [Michaels] and Razor-esque scenario. I think they have the personalities for it."Ray said that he's been a huge fan of Page since his days in "NXT" and was impressed by the physical transformation the former AEW star has undergone."I've been a fan of Ethan Page ever since he came over to the WWE. Obviously, as a guy who transformed his body, I respect Ethan for what he was able to do with his getting into, you know, cosmetic shape. He did well in NXT. I love the stuff that him and Chelsea did together in the tag matches. I like what he's been doing on the main roster so far."The WWE legend wants WWE to give Page the time and microphone opportunities to grow, allowing him to weasel his way to retaining the title.
Bully Ray, meanwhile, was left bewildered by the decision to take the title away from Chad Gable, particularly after his recent conversation with him on "Busted Open." Gable had outlined his plans for the Intercontinental Championship, stating that he wanted to be a workhorse champion, much like former titleholder GUNTHER. Ray revisited that interview and pointed out one thing Gable had expressed interest in doing, which he feels he can now pursue: wrestling in Mexico again."I asked Chad yesterday about whether or not he would like to go wrestle in Mexico again, and he was like, absolutely, when the time is right and my schedule allows for it. After last night, your schedule might allow for it," Ray added.Ray highlighted that Gable was one of the few WWE main roster stars capable of pulling off a high-spot-heavy style of wrestling. He added that he would miss seeing that style if WWE moved away from it."We were able to count on Gable to have those great match after great match after great match every single week,"he said."You know, with wrestling being a buffet, on the main roster, we really don't see the high spot match all the time, do we? But Gable does it really well. I hope they don't get away from that."Gable's first Intercontinental title win, which he won at SummerSlam from Penta, lasted exactly three months.
