In May, AEW star Tanea "Rebel" Brooks shared the unfortunate news that she'd been diagnosed with terminal Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, more commonly known as ALS. Now, the wrestling community around her is joining together to raise awareness and funds for research. This includes AEW commentator Jim Ross, who recently described Brooks as a beautiful human being with a kind heart. Given that, and the seriousness of her condition, he also implored everyone to send in donations for further ALS research, which he hopes will eventually lead to a cure."It's strange to me that the world we live in has no cure for cancer, has no cure for ALS," Ross said on "Grilling JR." "I know cancer, progress being made in that regard. I've had colon cancer, I've had skin cancer, and thank God I dodged a bullet or two. But there's no cure. They try things and maybe they work on somebody and they don't work on somebody else. But ALS, it's a powerful disease and I don't understand why we can't find a cure for it. So how we do that is we take your money, you're going to contribute a dollar, five dollars, whatever it may be. When those accumulate and continue to accumulate, then maybe somewhere down the road sooner than later, we'll find a cure for this killer. It's a death sentence and it's a shame."Following the special episode of "AEW Rebel Heart Dynamite," AEW revealed that it had donated $140,000 to I AM ALS and Team Gleason, both leading ALS advocacy organizations. In honor of Brooks, several non-AEW talents attended the event as well, including Gail Kim, Killer Kross, Scarlett Bordeaux, Allysin Kay, and Marti Belle. Brooks herself appeared in a "The Waiting Room" segment and later in the midst of a tag team match involving her long-time friend Britt Baker. If you use any of the quotes in this article, please credit "Grilling JR" with a h/t to Wrestling Inc. for the transcription.
