EmailPrintOpen Extended ReactionsWorld No. 1 Jannik Sinner on Sunday said he's dealing with a bothersome right knee and will not play in the Cincinnati Open."After consulting with my doctors and my team, I have to announce that I need to withdraw from the Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati," Sinner, who won the event in 2024, said in a statement released by the tournament. "My right knee has been bothering me and even though we have been working hard with my medical team, I have to accept that I'm not ready to compete yet."I'm very disappointed not to be able to play in Cincinnati. ... I'm now focusing on getting ready for the US Open."Sinner, who last competed at Wimbledon en route to his fifth Grand Slam crown, also withdrew from last week's Masters 1000 event in Toronto. Earlier this season, he was Masters 1000 events in Rome, Madrid, Monte Carlo, Miami and Indian Wells, California.The main draw for the US Open begins Aug. 30. Sinner, 24, will be trying to regain the title that Carlos Alcaraz took from the 2024 champion when they met in last year's final.Alcaraz, ranked No. 2, is also absent from the Cincinnati event as he continues to recover from a lingering wrist injury prior to the US Open.
