Matheus Fernandes is on his way to Tottenham from West Ham for 85million, according to widespread reports this afternoon. The Portuguese midfielder, who did not make Roberto Martinezs squad for the World Cup, was a member of the Hammers team that suffered relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season. That did not put off potential buyers with both Spurs and Manchester United tracking the 21-year-old and it seems the North London club have won the race having agreed to match West Hams valuation.Fernandes appeared in all but two of West Hams league games last season, scoring three times and adding four assists as they finished in 18th place, going down on the final day despite a win over Leeds. He also suffered relegation from the top-flight the season before when with Southampton. He joined West Ham for 38m in August 2025.If the deal is completed, Fernandes will become Tottenhams fifth signing of the summer, following on from free transfers Andy Robertson, Martin Dubravka and Marcos Senesi and centre-half Jan Paul van Hecke, who joined from Brighton for 52m.
