Rey Mysterios injury may have just caused a major shake-up for WrestleMania 42 and GUNTHER could be the one affected. A new report on March 18, 2026 reveals that WWE had been building toward a match between GUNTHER and Mysterio on the WrestleMania stage, but those plans are now in serious doubt. According to BodySlam.net, the storyline involving GUNTHER and Dragon Lee was originally designed to lead directly into a WrestleMania program with Mysterio. However, that direction has now been disrupted due to Mysterios rib injury. GUNTHERs feud with Dragon Lee was designed to set up a programme between Der Ring General and Rey Mysterio which would lead to a match at WrestleMania 42. With Mysterio dealing with fractured ribs suffered ahead of the Royal Rumble, WWE is now facing uncertainty about whether hell be cleared in time for the event. And that puts GUNTHER in a difficult spot. It is currently unknown if GUNTHER will perform at WrestleMania unless Mysterio is medically cleared in time for the Showcase of the Immortals. Thats a big shift, especially considering how strongly GUNTHER has been featured on WWE television since moving to the main roster in 2022. His most recent appearance came on the March 2 episode of RAW, where he defeated Dragon Lee after ripping off his mask a moment that seemed to be pushing things toward a bigger payoff. Now, that payoff may not happen at least not in the way originally planned. Everything appears to hinge on Mysterios recovery timeline. If hes cleared, the match could still move forward.
