Former WWE star Priscilla Kelly is no longer heading to Israel after her appearance at an upcoming wrestling event sparked outrage on social media.
Kelly was scheduled to make her IPWA debut at Passover Basha move promoted as a major moment for the Israeli wrestling scene. The promotion shared the announcement on Twitter, stating:
Kelly simply said, Im going to Israel. But that simple tweet led to a ton of backlash, as fans and critics pointed to the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict and accused Kelly of being insensitive to the humanitarian crisis. Within minutes, the tweet was deleted.
In the face of mounting pressure, Kelly addressed the situation directly, issuing a public apology and pulling out of the event. In a follow-up tweet, she explained her decision. She then clarified that her intent was never political and ended her statement by distancing herself from the implications of performing in Israel.
At the time of writing, IPWA has not commented on Kellys withdrawal or whether they plan to find a replacement for the event. This marks one of the more public wrestling-related pullouts due to international conflict, and now fans are discussing whether performers should be expected to take a standor stay out of politics entirely.
