Fans have been fantasy booking Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Goldberg for decades. Two of wrestlings biggest box office attractions from the Monday Night Wars era never collided in the ring and now Austin is breaking down exactly why.
In his interview with Chris Van Vliet, Austin admitted there were internal conversations about the match happening when Goldberg arrived in WWE. But there was one major problem: the timing wasnt right, and Goldberg simply wasnt where he needed to be yet.
And while Goldberg was certainly still famous from his WCW run, Austin emphasized that WWE had higher standards when it came to chemistry and build.
Even though Austin and Goldberg were often compared bald heads, goatees, intensity the matchup never made it past the brainstorming stage.
The two legends remained friends, but never opponents. In the end, its a mega-match that lived only in fan hype and promo packages not in the ring. Would you have wanted to see Goldberg vs. Stone Cold headline WrestleMania?
