Maria Sakkari got engaged to her long-time boyfriend Konstantinos Mitsotakis just before departing for Australia.
Five years ago, the top-ranked Greek female tennis player started dating Mitsotakis, who is the soon of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
While Sakkari didn't publicly share the engagement news, their engagement was revealed during the Greek Prime Minister's conversation with fellow Greek politicians at the start of 2026.
According to Neos Kosmos, Prime Minister Mitsotakis described his future daugher-in-law as "an exceptional young woman" and revealed that the wedding was planned for 2027. Also, the Prime Minister said that he was "absolutely ready" to become a grandfather.
What Sakkari said about her boyfriend a few years ago?
As mentioned above, Sakkari and Mitsotakis have been together for quite a long time. When they started dating, the 2021 French Open semifinalist described her partner as "a very relaxed person." Then, in an interview from 2024, the 30-year-old said that her boyfriend was extremely understanding and never put any pressure on her.
"I have a very good time with Konstantinos. It doesn't matter how many days we are together, but how good we are when we are together, but also when we are apart. I am very lucky to have him in my life and to have a man who understands me and has never told me. 'where are you going, where are you traveling?' It pushes me to move forward and become better," the former WTA world No. 3 said at the time.
Meanwhile, Sakkari is set to kick off her 2026 season today. In the first match of the Greece and Japan tie, the two-time WTA champion will take on four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka.
After the top-ranked Greek female tennis player and Osaka finish their match, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Shintaro Mochizuki will enter the court.
If there is need, the former WTA world No. 3 will later team up with Tsitsipas for a mixed doubles match against Osaka and Mochizuki.
