Ashleigh Barty admits there are "plenty things" that she misses about being a pro tennis player, but also underlines that there are many things she doesn't miss.
In 2022 January, Barty became the first Australian woman since 1988 to win the Australian Open. She also won the Adelaide International before going to Melbourne Park.
At the time, it was Barty's third Grand Slam title and she had a pretty safe lead at the world No. 1 spot over the rest of the competition.
After making a dream start to 2025, Barty didn't play any tournaments in the next two months. While the tennis public started to speculate what was happening with the Australian - who was widely considered the best player in the game during that period - she came out with a shock announcement that she was retiring from tennis. It happened in March 2022, just before her 26th birthday.

Now, speaking with Australian media, the 29-year-old noted that she doesn't miss traveling and being far away from her home, but misses "the little moments" that she had with her team.
Barty: There's plenty I miss about playing and there's plenty that I also don't miss
Theres plenty that I miss about playing and theres plenty that I also dont miss, and I think its only because Ive been so grateful to have experienced both being in the thick of it and now also being able to enjoy it as a spectator, the former three-time Grand Slam champion told The New Daily.
Its [missing] probably the little moments where your team comes together. Youre on the practice court together, youre in the gym. Youre really doing the hard yards together and youre pushed to some really tricky places and you come through that as one.

Since retiring from pro tennis, Barty has been very family orientated. The Australian tennis legend married Gerry Kissick in 2022 and they have welcomed two kids since.
