Holger Rune is going through the most delicate moment of his young career, having suffered a serious injury to his Achilles tendon.
The Danish star who had had a season full of ups and downs before that unfortunate accident knows that he will have to stay away from the professional tour for many months, but it must be admitted that his attitude has been truly impeccable so far.
The former world number 4 immediately underwent surgery and faced the first phase of his long rehabilitation with maximum effort. Some players and pundits have suggested that he doesn't overdo it, but he's surrounded himself with the right people by his side and all the fans can't wait for him to get back into action.
An injury like this usually takes 9 to 12 months to be fully resolved, although his mother Aneke has confessed that he would like to see Holger back on the court within six months.
Rune is working well
Rune's 2025 was characterized by some excellent performances alternating with sudden drops. The former Top 5 player had the best moment of his year during the spring, when he reached the final at the Indian Wells Masters 1000 (losing to a deluxe version of Jack Draper) and lifted the trophy at the Barcelona ATP 500 by beating current world No.1 Carlos Alcaraz in the final act.
Barring unlikely surprises, the Danish ace will be forced to miss most of next season.
During the latest episode of his famous podcast, former American champion Andy Roddick said that this injury should not affect Rune's future: "It's obviously a serious injury, but you shouldn't forget that he's only 22 years old. Kobe Bryant has recovered from the same injury and the same goes for Kevin Durant.
If he fully recovers, Holger has at least ten years ahead of him. If I were coaching someone who is going through the same situation as him, I would want them to bring out the same energy that Rune is showing right now. His attitude is ideal."
