Experts and insiders still find it hard to believe that Carlos Alcaraz has decided to part ways with Juan Carlos Ferrero.

The current world number 1 has decided to break off a partnership that had worked perfectly in 2025, considering that the Spanish ace is back from the most consistent season of his young career.

As well as lifting eight trophies this year, the 22-year-old from Murcia has finally shown the consistency of a true champion and it's no coincidence that he ended the year at the top of the ATP rankings for the second time in his career.

This breakup is made even more surprising by the fact that 'Juanki' had received the award for 'Coach of the Year' from the ATP a short time ago.

A very strange decision

In the days following this announcement, the main Spanish media outlets tried to contact the interested parties and provided a version of that story. According to the most reliable rumors, it seems that the relationship between Ferrero and part of Alcaraz's team had now degenerated (in particular the relationship with Carlitos' father and agent).

The former world number 1 would have received an unsatisfactory contract renewal proposal and would have had only two days to sign, without the possibility of making any changes to the initial offer. In Frdric Weis' opinion, the way Alcaraz's team handled this affair is very strange.

"I am surprised that Juan Carlos received a real ultimatum, in the sense that he would have to make a definitive answer within 48 hours. It doesn't seem like the right way to deal with someone who has worked together with Carlos for over seven years. I consider it quite scandalous behavior" he said.

For the moment, there is no official news regarding Ferrero's potential replacement. The six-time Grand Slam champion will be followed by Samuel Lopez at the 2026 Australian Open, one of the main goals of his entire season. The Spanish star has never made it past the quarterfinals in the Happy Slam.
