Andy Roddick thought Iga Swiatek winning Wimbledon was "a crazy story" of the 2025 season, but also something legendary.

Going into the 2025 clay season, Swiatek had been without a title since the 2024 French Open. However, since clay is by far her favorite surface and her success on the dirt is well-documented, the expectation was that she would end her title drought sometime in the spring. But it didn't happen, and the 24-year-old also suffered her first loss at Roland Garros since 2022 when she was beaten by Aryna Sabalenka in the French Open semifinal.

Since Swiatek had never before won a title on grass and her confidence was all but ideal going into this year's grass season, there wasn't much hope that she would turn the page on the slick surface. But exactly that happened after the world No. 2 dropped only set en route to lifting her first Wimbledon title and ending her 13-month title drought.

Roddick: Swiatek looked bad at times on her favorite, then found a way to dominate on her worst surface

Iga, turning her season around at Wimbledon, that was a crazy story. Its Iga, so we expect great things, and weve been preconditioned to her being one of the best with Aryna [Sabalenka] and Ash [Barty] of her generation. But not coming through on clay, looking bad at times on your favorite surface, and then somehow finding a way to be dominant on your worst surface. Thats the stuff that legends are made of. Thats crazy. Well see where it goes from here," Roddick said on his podcast.

Swiatek didn't only win her first Wimbledon title, but she also did it in a historic way after beating Amanda Anisimova 6-0 6-0 in the final and becoming the first player since 1911 to win a final at The Championships with such a scoreline.

Swiatek admitted later that she didn't expect to win Wimbledon this year.
