Blake Monroe is finally speaking out after her shocking and accidental title loss to Thea Hail on the December 16 episode of WWE NXT.
Following a finish that was never supposed to happen, Monroe posted a brief but pointed message on social media, not the first time ive been screwed.
Her reaction comes amid growing backstage reports that Hails win was not planned. The original finish of the match was for Monroe to retain the NXT Womens North American Title, but a botched final sequence forced an audible in real time.
Sources indicate Monroe had the wind knocked out of her after Hail came off the ropes. She tried to lift her shoulder during the pinfall, but couldnt do so in time. Since WWE referees are told to count pinfalls as legitimate, the official was left with no choice but to count three inadvertently giving Hail the win.
It was also noted that Thea Hail, still relatively new in her wrestling career, likely didnt realize she needed to give Monroe a moment to recover before attempting the pin.
To further illustrate how unplanned the finish was, WWE initially played Monroes entrance music after the match only to abruptly stop it and switch to Hails theme once it became clear that the referee had made a final decision. WWE later played into the confusion as part of a storyline, using Monroes late shoulder raise as a controversial plot point.
The title change sparked chaos backstage, with WWE officials rushing to rewrite upcoming segments and creative plans that were originally built around Monroe as champion.
With WWE now set to tape two upcoming episodes of NXT at the Performance Center, theres speculation the company may quickly reverse the outcome and get the title back on Monroe. For now, Thea Hail is the official champion but that could change fast.
