The Blade is officially back. After nearly two years out of the ring, the AEW standout made his surprise in-ring return over the weekend at the Blissmas 25 event in Buffalo. This marked his first match since February 2024and it came after a grueling recovery from major spinal surgery.
The Blade stepped through the ropes once again, a moment thats now circulating across social media in fan-shot clips. For many, its not just a wrestling comeback its a comeback story of survival, healing, and one very important assist behind the scenes.
The Blades last match before this long absence came at Alpha-1s Watch The Throne 7: The Kings Are Back event, where he defeated Kody Lane. Just weeks later, his career was forced to pause due to a serious lower back injury that ultimately required spinal fusion surgery in September 2024.
Thats when AEW President Tony Khan stepped in. According to those close to the situation, Khan didnt just wish The Blade well he covered the entire cost of the surgery and all associated physical therapy.
The Blade first rose to national attention in AEW back in 2019, when he debuted alongside The Butcher and The Bunny. Known for their menacing presence and aggressive tag-team style, the trio left an immediate mark. His last AEW match before injury took place in January 2024, rounding out a tough year before things fell apart physically.
