Darby Allin has made headlines for his constant risk taking antics. He also never holds back in the ring, and many fans have wondered if its worth the damage he puts on his body. Even old-school veterans like Good ole JR are watching him closely, and may not for the best reason.
During Grilling JR, Jim Ross issued a serious warning about Darby Allins future on his podcast, saying bluntly that there will come a day when Darbys luck runs out. The discussion began when Conrad Thompson brought up AEW pulling Darby from the Continental Classic after he got banged up. Conrad noted that Darby told a radio show he felt amazing, but AEW still refused to clear him because they were protecting him from himself.
Conrad then asked JR if he had dealt with similar situations in WWE with wrestlers like Mick Foley. JR said this happened often. He said wrestlers push themselves too hard because they want to stand out. He explained how that mindset leads to choices that put careers and bodies at risk. JR first reacted to Conrads point by saying, Thats true. Thats true.
Conrad Thompson then asked if this was similar to Mick Foley. JR explained the mindset behind the risk taking, because there is a sense of one-upmanship to things. He also made a metaphor to a panic button being involved.
JR closed by noting that AEW is stepping in because Darby will not step back on his own. His message was clear. Darbys style brings excitement, but it brings risk. And JR believes there will come a point where the risk wins.
We will have to see what Darby Allin does next in his life. He is not prepared to give up the daredevil antics, but there is always a bump card for anyone in the business. Eventually, those punches on that card will run out, and its anyones guess what is next for Darby at this point.
