Pentas long-awaited tag team reunion with Rey Fenix at AAAs Guerra de Titanes on December 20 is now hanging by a threadand its not up to him.
Despite recent optimism from fans following Pentas rehab progress, WWE hasnt officially cleared him for in-ring action after the serious shoulder injury he suffered during a November episode of RAW. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE sources are split on the decisionleaving Pentas status at a flat 50/50. Dave Meltzer explained the situation in detail:
The injury happened during a match with Solo Sikoa when a hurricanrana spot off the barricade went wrong. The bout was abruptly stopped, and cameras cut to commercial as officials rushed Penta backstage. Since then, the luchador has been undergoing treatment under Dr. Odiseo, who offered a hopefulbut ultimately cautiousupdate.
Originally, Penta and Fenix were set to reunite against Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano, following a fiery challenge issued at AAAs Alianzas event. But the injury has cast serious doubt on the tag matchand with AAAs marquee event just days away, the dream scenario may not become reality.
Even if Penta is medically fit, the final decision comes down to WWE. And with their growing involvement in how contracted stars work outside appearances, the call to protect his long-term health may override any short-term nostalgia pop.
