Jannik Sinner will have a lot of pressure already in the first month of the new season, as he tries to win the title at the Australian Open for the third year in a row. The world number 2 has established a very special feeling with the tournament that takes place at Melbourne Park, where he has triumphed in the last two editions with scintillating performances.
Everyone still remembers his feat against Serbian legend Novak Djokovic in the semi-final of the 2024 edition, before coming back from two sets to Russian ace Daniil Medvedev in the final to prevent the latter from winning the second Major title of his career.
The 24-year-old Italian risked much less during the 2025 edition, except for an illness suffered in the hours before the match against the young Danish star Holger Rune. Once that difficult moment was overcome, the former world number 1 returned to express his best tennis and demolished Alexander Zverev in the last act.

Sinner could make history at the AO
The champion from Sesto Pusteria ended the 2025 season in the brightest possible way, having suffered only one loss after the US Open (the one against Tallon Griekspoor in the third round of the Shanghai Masters 1000 caused by cramps). After the last Major of the year, Jannik lifted the trophy in Beijing, Vienna, Paris and at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin for the second time in a row.
Sinner has a disadvantage of just 550 points to Carlitos Alcaraz in the ATP rankings and will be able to assault the first position again from February onwards (having not played in that period in 2025 due to the controversial ban he was inflicted).
The Italian star will not play official tournaments before the AO, but will be the protagonist of a couple of exhibition matches respectively against Alcaraz (on January 10 in Seoul) and Felix Auger-Aliassime (on January 16 in Melbourne). Should he triumph in Australia, Sinner would equal Nole Djokovic as the only two players capable of winning the AO three times in a row in the Open Era. The Serbian veteran has achieved this feat twice (2011-2013 and 2019-2021).
