Andy Murray said he was "glad" that he had a chance to collaborate with Novak Djokovic, although their results weren't as targeted.

In November 2024 - just four months after retiring from pro tennis - Murray joined Djokovic's coaching staff for 2025. When explaining his decision, the Serbian tennis star admitted that he wanted something different at that stage of his career and someone who played against him and understood what it would take to compete better against the younger generation.

After Djokovic defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the Australian Open quarterfinal, the hype surrounding their partnership went sky high. Unfortunately for the two, it quickly collapsed after the Serb picked up a hamstring injury and struggled in the next couple of months, before their stint ended in May.

Murray admitted that his results with Djokovic were "disappointing," but doesn't regret his decision.

"I look back on it and I'm glad I did it. I was fully invested. I had committed to a skiing holiday before I took the job and I explained that to him. But I was sitting there at 11 PM, watching videos of his matches over in Australia, editing videos to send to him," the British tennis legend said on The Tennis Podcast.

What Djokovic said about Murray after their split?

Djokovic's decision to part ways with Murray just before the French Open came as a surprise as the general expectation was that they would at least collaborate through the grass season and Wimbledon.

When addressing their split, the record 24-time Grand Slam champion claimed that they "mutually agreed" that the best thing would be to go their separate ways. Also, the 38-year-old Serb was full of praise for one of his former biggest rivals.

"For him to join my team and for us to give a shot to this player-coach relationship was really an incredible thing for tennis and for both of us. I was very privileged and honored. I was enjoying myself very much regardless of the fact that we haven't had maybe the success we both wanted or people expected us to have," Djokovic said after their split.

Murray has since confirmed that he plans to coach on the Tour once again in the future.
