The 36-year-old golfer now has serious ambitions for the future, and the icing on the cake was winning his seventh Race to Dubai title.
Rory McIlroy thus moved closer to Colin Montgomerie and his record of eight Tour Order of Merit titles. After the tournament, McIlroy had only words of praise for Montgomerie, saying that to be excellent for so many years is a truly impressive thing.
McIlroy emphasizes that Montgomerie's dominance over seven years is an incredible achievement that is often not mentioned enough, especially when we know he faced opponents like Langer, Woosnam, Faldo, Lyle and others.
Montgomerie responded to the Northern Irish golfer's words shortly after, thanking him for his praise and comparing that generation of golfers to his own when he was playing.

Montgomerie ultimately said that McIlroy had broken many records and only had one more to go eight or nine Tour Order of Merit titles. Montgomerie hopes to personally present him with the Race to Dubai trophy.

It remains to be seen whether Colin will actually present the trophy to the Northern Irish golfer on the 18th green at the Jumeirah Golf Estates, but fans believe that they could see that scenario even next year.
