World no. 2 Jannik Sinner is a win away from defending the ATP Finals title. The home favorite has yet to lose a set this week in Turin, displaying his brilliant indoor firework and leaving everyone behind.
Jannik faced Alex de Minaur in the semi-final and earned a 7-5, 6-2victory in an hour and 52minutes. Thus, the Italian has won 16 straight sets at the year-ending event, which speaks volumes.
Alex reached the semi-final with one round-robin victory in the final match of the group. He fought well against Jannik in the opener but faded from the court in the second set to experience the 13th loss from as many duels against the four-time Major winner.
Sinner has yet to lose serve in Turin this year. He faced three break points in this match in the second game of the opening set and defended them to keep the pressure on the other side.
De Minaur had to dig deep in his games against such a strong rival. He survived issues in games one, seven and nine before facing three more break points at 5-5. Jannik seized the last and moved in front.
The home favorite served for the set at 6-5 and held at 15 to wrap up the first part of the duel and gain a massive boost. The defending champion dominated at the beginning of the second set.
Sinner served well and provided breaks in games one and three to forge a massive advantage and move closer to the finish line. Alex saved two more break points in game five and avoided a bagel.
Jannik faced the fourth break point in the sixth game and denied it with an ace before holding with a service winner for 5-1. De Minaur served to stay in the match in game seven and held at 30 with a service winner to prolong the battle.
However, Sinner served for the win at 5-2 and provided another fine hold and move into the final where he faces Carlos Alcaraz or Felix Auger-Aliassime.
