As was expected, Lorenzo Musetti will not compete at next week's Davis Cup Finals in Bologna. Like Jannik Sinner, Musetti decided to end his season after the ATP Finals and give his body more time to recover ahead of 2026.
Lorenzo competed for Italy between 2021 and 2024 with mixed results. However, he will not lead his country in front of the home fans in Bologna following a grueling endingto the season and his second child that is on the way.
Musetti suffered an early defeat at the Paris Masters and allowed Felix Auger-Aliassime to pass him ahead of the final regular week of the season. With no room for errors, the Italian entered the ATP 250 event in Athens.

Lorenzo had to win the title to pass the Canadian and grab the final ticket for the ATP Finals in Turin. However, he reached the final and fell to Novak Djokovic after nearly three hours.

Thus, Musetti missed a chance to punch that final ticket, although Novak gave him his one following a withdrawal from Turin. After all, Lorenzo reached Turin and battled against the world's best players for the first time.
While they were already training in Turin, the Italian joined them late and even played in back-to-back days. After falling to Taylor Fritz in the first match, the home player gave everything against Alex de Minaur and prevailed in three sets.
He needed another good result against world no. 1, Carlos Alcaraz, to reach the semi-final and join Jannik Sinner in the last four. However, the Spaniard beat him 6-4, 6-1 to end his campaign in the round-robin stage.
After the duel, Lorenzo withdrew from the Davis Cup Finals and ended his career-best season.

"Bologna? I spoke with Filippo, the captain, and given my physical condition and family situation (my second child is about to be born), I have decided not to play the Davis Cup. I'm very disappointed.
This experience in Turin and these matches were a test for me. I dug deep inside myself, something I do not do very often, which will help me tremendously in the future. I managed to beat Alex, and he is the one who advances to the semifinals.
It's a cruel ending, but that's the tournament formula. I hope to have another chance next year," Lorenzo Musetti said.
