The longrumored fatherversusson showdown between Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio is officially off the Survivor Series: WarGames cardand the change comes straight from backstage sources.
Dave Meltzer broke the news on Wrestling Observer Radio, revealing that WWE is no longer planning to run the match in San Diego despite storyline groundwork. Meltzer explained that after digging for confirmation, he was told WWE has pulled the match completely.
The match was internally penciled in for Petco Parka hometown performance with a builtin emotional hook. There was even talk of Rey defending the AAA Mega Championship against Dominik that same weekend. Now, both versions appear to have been pushed aside as WWE reshuffles its plans.
The turning point seems to be John Cenas sudden Intercontinental Championship match on RAW. Originally meant for Survivor Series, the match was moved up to Boston, where Cena beat Dominik and became a Grand Slam Champion. With Dominik no longer holding the title, the entire direction shiftedand the fatherson match lost its momentum.
Survivor Series now pivots fully to its WarGames attractions. CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, and Jey Uso are locked in for the mens WarGames match alongside two mystery partnerswhile Logan Paul joins The Vision on the opposing side. Rey and Dominik are still advertised to appear at the event, but not against each other.
This change leaves fans wondering what role the Mysterios will actually play in their hometownand whether WWE missed a massive opportunity by pulling the match.
