Iga Swiatek is out of the WTA Finals after picking up a 7-6 (3) 4-6 2-6 loss to Amanda Anisimova in a match that was a direct battle for the last semifinal spot from Serena Williams Group.

After not a single break was seen in the opening set, the Polish tennis star won three consecutive points to open a 4-1 tie-break lead before converting her second set point.

Up by a set, Swiatek had a great chance to also go up by a break in the second set but missed out on three break points in the third game. With the Pole serving to stay in the second set at 4-5, Anisimova stepped up and claimed the first break of the match to force a decider.

Swiatek never recovered from losing the second set in such a way as Anisimova dominated the third set and routinely won it with breaks in the fourth and eighth games.

Anisimova, who is making her WTA Finals debut this year, is now two wins away from winning the season-ending tournament.

On the other side, Swiatek failed to make it past the WTA Finals group stage for the second time in a row.

Swiatek complained about someone from the crowd before losing to Anisimova

At the start of the second set, the six-time Grand Slam champion wanted someone to be removed from the stands.

Meanwhile, Swiatek lost back-to-back matches from a set up in Riyadh as she also led against Elena Rybakina two days ago before the Kazakh stormed back to win 3-6 6-1 6-0.
