Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant has seen enough of rookie sensation Cooper Flagg to make a bold prediction the Mavericks teenager is destined for greatness.
Dallas arent having the best start to the season, after falling to 2-5 when the Rockets defeated them 110-102 on Monday night. The team is injury plagued, but KD is high on Flagg.
I think that hes going to be a hell of a player, Durant told DallasHoopsJournal.com. I think that hes going to be such a nightmare that hell be considered one of the best of all time.
At just 18 years old, Flagg has already shown flashes of elite two-way potential.
The 69 forward, who has been thrown into the point guard role under Jason Kidd, is averaging 13.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and three assists per game.
Its a modest start statistically, but Durant believes the numbers dont tell the full story.
I think that youre going from in college playing four and five to playing point guard, two guard, Durant explained. Thats going to be an adjustment period for everybody.
I hate to inject myself into his [situation], but I came in college playing four, five. I came to the league playing a two. So its like position changes like that can really throw you off early on in your career, but I think hes still working through it and having some good games, you know?
Despite Flaggs growing pains, Durant insists patience will pay off.
Its only a matter of time before he gets it and clicks for him, he said. He understands truly what his role is, I think the skys the limit for him.
If Flagg can find his rhythm, the rest of the league may soon be dealing with exactly what Durant warned, a nightmare in the making.
