During his career, as well as after it, Boris Becker has had many challenges in various fields, but mostly in the financial aspect. It's to be expected that when you're a big tennis star, you make a lot of money, but it seems things aren't always that way.
Roger Federer, for example, is one of the tennis players who earned huge sums of money, becoming the seventh athlete to join the billionaire club. His fortune is estimated at 1.1 billion dollars.
Throughout his long career, the Swiss tennis player won a large number of tournaments, which brought him significant financial gains.
In an interview with the media, Boris Becker drew a parallel between himself and tennis stars who earned huge sums, saying that times used to be much different.

In the 80s, tennis players had a much more difficult task earning millions, but Boris Becker had many financial setbacks, mostly due to divorces.
"Those were different times," Becker said, as quoted by Sportskeeda.
"In the '80s at Wimbledon you won 300,000 pounds, now it's 3 million. And anyway, half the prize money goes to taxes, then you have to deduct the costs. People hear these figures and get unrealistic ideas."
As for me, I've had two expensive divorces and had to support four children. I've always lived a certain standard of living, but I've never squandered money on yachts or Ferraris."

The tennis legend experienced bankruptcy at one point in his life, but still had an income as an important figure in the sport. However, Boris emphasizes that various situations in his life greatly damaged his reputation and further reduced his income.
