Daniil Medvedev will not compete at next week's ATP 250 event in Metz. The Russian asked for a wild card following a solid run at the Paris Masters that kept alive his ATP Finals chances.

However, the Russian wasted two match points in the Paris quarter-final against Alexander Zverev, suffering a tight defeat and losing an opportunity to fight for a place in Turin.

Daniil made a great gesture, traveling to Metz following a disappointed defeat and meeting with tournament director Julien Boutter to explain his withdrawal.

Medvedev had many ups and downs in 2025. He ended his partnership with a long-term coach and embraced a new challenge under Thomas Johansson. The former world no. 1 reached the semi-final in Indian Wells and the quarter-final in Madrid.

However, he suffered early defeats at Majors and plagued his chances to wrap up the year inside the top-10. He lost the Halle final to Alexander Bublik in June before embracing another poor streak.

The Russian fell to Yibing Wu in Hangzhou before making changes and improving his tennis in Beijing and Shanghai, earning a couple of top-10 wins and reaching two semi-finals.

Daniil made a jump on the ATP ranking list and conquered the trophy in Almaty, lifting his first ATP title since May 2023! However, he experienced an early loss at the ATP 500 event in Vienna, which would cost him dearly.

Medvedev moved to Paris and defeated Jaume Munar and Lorenzo Sonego for a place in the quarter-final. He suffered a 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 victory against Alexander Zverev after wasting two match points on the return in the decider.

Thus, he lost chances to qualify for the ATP Finals and withdrew from Metz. Daniil wrapped up the season with a solid boost, playing much better than untilsummer and hoping for a strong run in 2026.
