Jannik Sinner will chase his first Paris Masters crown on Sunday. World no. 2 provided one of his most devastating performances of the season against world no. 3 Alexander Zverev in the semi-final.
The Italian provided a 6-0, 6-1 victory in 62 minutes for a place in his ninth Masters 1000 final. Zverev survived against Daniil Medvedev in the quarter-final despite an injury and two match points against him.
However, he stood no chance against Sinner, who provided the most dominant victory over a top-3 player since Mikhail Youzhny dismantled Rafael Nadal in the 2008 Chennai Open final!
The Russian bested world no. 2 6-0, 6-1 to lift a trophy. A day earlier, Nadal ousted his future coach Carlos Moya 6-7, 7-6, 7-6 following a massive battle, having nothing left in the tank for the title clash.
Alexander finished his duel against Daniil in much shorter time. However, he still suffered a terrible loss, one of the most difficult ones of his career. The German struggled physically and failed to impose his strokes against such a strong opponent.
The defending champion lost 60% of the points in his games and gave serve away six times from nine chances offered to his opponent. On the other hand, Jannik gave away seven points in his games and kept the pressure on the other side.
The Italian landed 23 winners and 12 unforced errors. He hit more service winners and had the edge from the baseline while reducing his rival to six direct points!
Nothing worked for the German, who landed only seven unforced errors. Thus, he had to work hard for every point, which became a mission impossible in his physical state.
Sinner forged a 27-8 lead in the most extended rallies and brought the victory home in style to preserve energy for the Felix Auger-Aliassime clash. The Italian kicked off the duel with a bagel.
Alexander saved a break point in the first game of the second set and brought it home. However, that was all we saw from him, as Jannik rattled off six games to emerge at the top in no time.
