Alexander Zverev confirmed that he played against Jannik Sinner with a significant ankle swelling and also revealed that he plans to pay a visit to the same doctor who performed the surgery on him when he suffered that gruesome 2022 French Open ligament injury.
On Friday, Zverev overcame ankle issues and two match points to edge out Daniil Medvedev 2-6 6-3 7-6 (5) in a two-and-a-half-hour Paris Masters quarterfinal thriller. The next day, the world No. 3 returned to action but evidently looked far from his best physically. And world No. 1 Jannik Sinner made the most out of it, annihilating the German 6-0 6-1 to reach the Paris final.
Throughout the entire match, Zverev appeared to be struggling physically, especially with his movement and with his serve.

Unfortunately, it swelled up a lot yesterday after the match. But to be honest, I mean against Jannik, if youre not 100 percent and if youre not playing at your absolute best, then you simply dont stand a chance, and he showed that today... I couldnt move 100 percent. I couldnt really push off on my serve either, which is obviously very, very important for me against him, the German said.
Zverev's plan ahead of the ATP Finals
During a nasty 2022 French Open semifinal fall, Zverev tore several ligaments but the surgery was a success. Now, a week before the start of the ATP Finals, the top-ranked German male tennis player plans to return to his country and consult with the same doctor.
Yes, Ill probably fly to Munich to see my doctor who did the surgery on my ankle. Ill look into it with him and see what it is and if we can do anything about it. Maybe we can make an injection, and then Ill come to Turin at some point," the 28-year-old added.

It will be interesting to see how much can Zverev can recover for the ATP Finals and how he will look on the court.
